At Beloved Rabbits, we’re incredibly proud to help rabbits find loving new homes, but like many rescues, we’re currently facing an overwhelming demand for our rehoming services. This means we do operate a waiting list, and sadly, some owners and their beloved bunnies may wait several months before we can offer them a space.
To help bridge that gap, we introduced our Rehoming Assistance Programme, a way to support rabbits into their new home sooner. Through this initiative, we can feature rabbits on our adoption pages while they’re still waiting for a space in the rescue. Our hope is simple: to find them a suitable new home more quickly, so they can begin their next chapter without the long wait.
Joining the programme is straightforward. Rabbits either need a recent full veterinary health check, or owners can bring them to us for a welfare check with our experienced volunteers. If everything goes well, we can often have them featured for adoption within just a few days.
But sometimes, these checks reveal something unexpected.
Ureka’s Story

That’s exactly what happened with sweet Ureka.
After losing her companion, Ureka’s owner made the incredibly difficult decision to rehome her, wanting her to have bunny company again. When she came in for her welfare check, the goal was simply to get her listed for adoption. However, during the assessment, our team noticed subtle signs such as slightly watery eyes and a mild sensitivity around her mouth and jaw.
They were easy to miss, but with trained eyes and years of experience, our volunteers recognised that these could point to an underlying dental issue.
We spoke with her owner and recommended a full veterinary check. Within a week, Ureka was seen by a vet, and our suspicions were confirmed. She had a dental spur causing discomfort. Thankfully, with prompt treatment, the issue was resolved quickly.
Because of that early intervention, Ureka is now comfortable, healthy, and ready to find her forever home and a new bunny friend to share it with.
Prioritising Rabbit Welfare In Every Circumstance

Stories like Ureka’s highlight something really important. While our Rehoming Assistance Programme is designed to help rabbits find homes faster, it also gives us the chance to spot hidden health or behavioural concerns early. This means we can support owners in addressing these needs, better understand each rabbit, and ensure they’re truly ready for adoption.
We know how hard it can be for owners who need to make the decision to rehome their rabbits. The wait can feel long and uncertain, and we genuinely wish we could help everyone immediately. While we continue to do all we can, this programme offers a compassionate and practical way to provide support in the meantime.
As a completely volunteer-led rescue, our team brings years of dedication and experience to every rabbit we meet. Ureka’s journey is a perfect example of how even the smallest signs can make a big difference—and how, with the right care at the right time, a brighter future is just around the corner.
