Our new Rehoming Report shares what 318 rehoming requests told us about rabbit welfare, owner pressures, and the true cost of giving rabbits a second chance.
Every year we support rabbit owners who feel they have run out of options. Some face sudden life changes. Some face rising costs. Some lose a bonded rabbit and cannot keep a bunny alone.
Today we are publishing our Rehoming Report, a free download that looks at all rehoming applications we received between 1 December 2023 and 30 November 2024. The report follows the journey of each of those applications from request submission through to conclusion, because a single application can take many months to resolve.

What The Report Covers:
- Demand. We received 318 applications involving 560 rabbits
- Impact. We assisted 179 rabbits through rescue intake and our Rehoming Assistance Programme (RAP)
- Cost. The estimated overall cost of care and routine treatments for the rabbits assisted totalled £47,678!
- Welfare realities. 69% of owners had no proof of vaccination, and 73% of home environments fell below RWAF standards.
- Inequality. 43% of applicants lived in SIMD deciles 1 to 3, which signals a need for targeted support in some of Scotland’s most deprived areas.
Why Are We Publishing This?
We want supporters, funders, vets, pet shops, and rabbit owners to see the scale of the issue and the practical pressures behind it. The report also shows what helps, including RAP and our Rehoming Support Team, which reduce waiting times and improve adoption outcomes.
