Rehoming Support Team
We are facing a rabbit welfare crisis, impacting thousands of pet rabbits in Scotland and throughout the UK right now.
Like many animal welfare organisations within the UK, Beloved Rabbits is overwhelmed with the demand placed upon us by owners seeking to rehome their rabbits. Whilst some of these requests are from owners who have lost interest in their pets, the vast majority are from owners who have genuine changes in circumstances or challenges with their pets and need our help.
To help address the needs of rabbit owners and the rabbits within their care, we are looking for volunteers to join our Rehoming Support Team. This team will proactively support owners as we explore various options to address their rabbits' needs.
Our new team roles include:
See below for more details.
Rehoming Support Advisor
For volunteers aged 18 years or over.
Our Rehoming Support Advisors, volunteering from their own home, will be our point of contact for rabbit owners who find themselves in a position where they need help to rehome their rabbits.
Owners have varied needs and reasons for rehoming, and our Rehoming Support Team will provide a wide range of options to ensure that owners can confidently and safely consider options that best meet their needs, and of course ensure the ongoing rabbit welfare needs are met too.
As a team member, you will be responsible for contacting owners through email, telephone and/or social media channels to discuss their rehoming requirements and manage their "case" until we have successfully secured the rabbits' needs. In some cases, this may be advising owners or ways that may be able to make adjustments to allow the rabbits to stay at home - whether that's through bonding advice, housing advice or signposting to appropriate health and behaviours services. In other cases, it will support the owners through our various rehoming options and keep them updated until a successful alternative home has been identified.
Full training and support will be given, including regular team catch-ups via online and face-to-face meetings.
We are looking for individuals who can spare approx. 5-7 hours per week, which can easily and flexibly be fitted around any other work or family commitments. Volunteers will be required to have access to their own computer/laptop to access online services and software needed to support the activity.
Ongoing Support
You will report directly to one of the charity's volunteer managers, as well as regularly contact with our charity director.
You will also be invited to regular team meetings for important updates and training on an ongoing basis.
As with all our volunteers, you will also be invited to our volunteer collaboration system online to engage and chat about your role and rabbit welfare with the whole team.

RAP Advisor
For volunteers aged 18 years or over.
Our Rehoming Assistance Programme (RAP) was developed to offer an alternative option to owners looking to rehome their rabbit(s) while they wait for space in the rescue. It can often take a number of months for space to become available, and so for rabbits who are suitable for adoption we can feature them on our adoptions website and work to find them a new home, to try and reduce the amount of time owners wait.
RAP Advisors volunteer from their own home and support owners who have engaged with the RAP programme, to act as a point of contact and ensure we have all the necessary information for the rabbit adoption profiles.
Owners will have worked with the Rehoming Support Team previously, and will have exhausted all other options before deciding to rehome their rabbit(s). RAP Advisors will offer continued support and advice to owners while we try to find a solution for them, either through adoption or surrender to the rescue.
RAP Advisors will be responsible for contacting owners through email or over the phone, to refresh profile information or fill gaps, and will work creatively to develop descriptions of the rabbit(s) that best showcase their personalities and ensure we make the right match with prospective adopters. They will guide owners through getting great photos to help the rabbit(s) find their forever homes. Additionally, they will make sure we have key information such as vet histories, to make sure everything is in place ahead of potential reservation for adoption.
When the adoptions team identify a possible match, the RAP Advisor will communicate any questions to the owner, and if a reservation is made they will work closely with the owner and adoptions team to coordinate the rabbit(s) surrender.
Full training and support will be given, and as this a new role, the Rehoming Manager will work closely with the RAP Advisors to fully develop the role and ensure successful delivery of service to owners. There will be regular team catch-ups online and in person with the wider Rehoming Team.
We are looking for individuals who can spare approximately 4-5 hours a week, which can easily and flexibly be fitted around any other work or family commitments. Volunteers will be required to have access to their own computer/laptop to access online services and software need to support the rehoming activity.
