Why Do We Need This Campaign?
Every Spring, We Hold Our Breath
For rabbit rescues like ours, the warmer months bring more than longer days and fresh grass. They bring fear. Spring and summer are when Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease (RHD2) and Myxomatosis surge — carried silently by biting insects, wild rabbits, and even contaminated plants and hay. For unvaccinated rabbits, both diseases are almost always fatal, and the deaths are cruel. We have lost rabbits to these viruses before, and it is a loss that stays with you.

A small boost to our regular funding
Our promise: every rabbit in our care is vaccinated
At Beloved Rabbits, vaccination is not optional — it is a cornerstone of our welfare policy. Every rabbit who comes through our door, whether abandoned, surrendered, or rescued from neglect, receives the full annual protection they need. Each rabbit requires two separate vaccines every year: one covering Myxomatosis and RHD1, and another covering RHD2. Together, these injections are the difference between a long, loved life and a preventable, painful death.
We work hard to keep costs down
BUT THEY STILL CLIMB!
We have done everything we reasonably can to stretch every pound further. Our vaccines are obtained by prescription and administered by our own authorised carers, which is the most cost-effective route available to a rescue of our size. Even so, with every new rabbit in our care, the annual bill grows. A single season of vaccinations across our rescue population runs into thousands of pounds, and when emergency intakes arrive — as they so often do — those costs can appear overnight.

Abandoned Outside Our Door: The Reality of Illegal Abandonment
On the evening of Thursday 2nd April, someone left a rabbit in a cardboard box outside The Bunny Bothy — our shop and appointments office. There was no prior arrangement, no message, and no way to identify who was responsible. Based on volunteer activity in the area, we know the…
Rehoming Welfare Checks Improve Rabbit Welfare
At Beloved Rabbits, we’re incredibly proud to help rabbits find loving new homes, but like many rescues, we’re currently facing an overwhelming demand for our rehoming services. This means we do operate a waiting list, and sadly, some owners and their beloved bunnies may wait several months before we can…
Robin: a hard goodbye, and why it still matters
Robin: a hard goodbye, and why it still matters This morning, we said goodbye to Robin. We want to share her story, because rescue does not always end with the happy outcome we all work towards. Even when the outcome is heartbreaking, the care still happens, the costs still land,…
Halloumi & Cheddar
Sometimes even the straightforward cases do not go the way you expect. We first met Halloumi and Cheddar in March 2022, when they were born in our care to a pregnant doe who had been surrendered to us, Petunia. They were adopted together six months later. Sadly, due to a…
