Rabbit Awareness Week is an annual event, this year running from 15th – 22nd September, and is organised by a number of partners who have been officially appointed because of their expertise in some or all aspects of rabbit welfare. These partners include Burgess Excel, Panacur Rabbit, RSPCA, PDSA, The Blue Cross, Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF) and Wood Green The Animals Charity. With such a wealth of expertise round the table, pet owners can be sure that any rabbit information they see under the official RAW brand is sure to be correct and ully in line with the five rabbit welfare needs..
But why bother? Well, rabbits continue to be the UK’s 3rd most popular pet, thanks to their high level of intelligence, the interactivity and how fun they can be to watch & play with. However, there are still a lot of myths and misinformation around the best care for pet rabbits, and indeed their basic welfare needs.
So Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW) was created where rabbit experts (such as vets, pet retailers, welfare charities and manufacturers) work together during a dedicated week to educate the pet owning public about proper rabbit care and welfare.
During the week many vets across the UK will be offering FREE health checks for local rabbits. It doesn’t matter if your rabbits have never been to the vet before, its never too late to get them health checked by the experts. We will tell you about free health checks that our vet partners will be carrying out too.
Our entire service surrounds this kind of welfare advice and support, so during the week we will continue to offer rabbit welfare advice via our website, facebook, twitter and by telephone.
If you have any suggestions for additional activities we could do during RAW, please don’t hesitate to drop us an email or post it on our Facebook page and we’ll see what we can do.
