Foster Carer Application
BEFORE WE BEGIN!:
The foster carer role would mean you have equipment and a foster placement with you at your own home. The equipment is supplied by us. You would be responsible for the day-to-day care and supplies for the rabbit(s) such as food, bedding and toys.
For outdoor placements this ranges from double storey hutches to single hutches or sheds depending on how many placements you wish to take on and also how suitable your garden is for the equipment. The space requirements is approx 6ftx3ft for the living accommodation and an additional 8ftx6ft for the exercise area.
Our biggest need though is for indoor placements, and it would be great if you could consider whether this is something you could offer. The typical space needed for this would be 2m x 1m x 1m for the equipment with an exercise area of around 2m x 2m, usually a room or section of an area. Fostering indoors allows you to spend much more time with the rabbits in your care, and really get to know them well. Socialisation is so important for the rabbits, as part of preparing them for their forever homes!
Finally it is a requirement of the foster care role that you have access to transport. Our central hub is based in Kirkintilloch, just outside Glasgow, called the Bunny Bothy and this is where a lot of the rabbit activity takes place such as adoptions, picking up foster placements, microchipping and vaccinations. It is also really important that you are able to transport rabbits in your care to/from a local vet practice, especially in emergencies. We will help identify a suitable vet practice for you, and we cover the cost of all treatments. As a foster carer, we need you to have your own transport, or access to transport, and be comfortable coming to and from the rescue hub to support the foster and adoption of rabbits in your care.
