Rabbit Care Skills Lead

Location: The Hoppy Hub 
Reports to: Education Managers 
Indirect Reports to: Care Team Manager and Charity Director 
Commitment: Minimum one shift per week (rotating schedule to cover all Care Team members) 

Purpose of the Role 

The Rabbit Care Skills Lead supports the training and development of volunteers within the Care Team through direct, hands-on coaching. Working alongside team members and the rabbits in our care, the Skills Lead helps to model safe handling, effective husbandry, and welfare-focused care routines. The role ensures consistency across all shifts and helps volunteers feel confident and capable in their duties. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Deliver practical on-shift coaching, demonstrations, and welfare-focused guidance. 
  • Work directly with rabbits and volunteers to reinforce high-quality care standards. 
  • Rotate weekly shifts to engage with all Care Team members across different days. 
  • Support Care Leads and Appointment Managers to develop their own coaching skills. 
  • Identify training needs and report these to the Education Managers. 
  • Assist in developing and updating care training content and activities. 
  • Promote the charity’s welfare and safety standards at all times. 

Skills and Experience 

  • Strong understanding of rabbit handling, husbandry, and welfare. 
  • Skilled in explaining and demonstrating practical care tasks. 
  • Confident communicator with patience and empathy for volunteers in training. 
  • Experience mentoring, supervising, or training others (preferred). 
  • Reliable, approachable, and committed to high welfare standards. 

 

Training and Support 

The Rabbit Care Skills Lead will receive: 

  • Full induction and role-specific training. 
  • Ongoing mentoring from the Education Managers. 
  • Regular feedback and review to support personal development. 

 

Expected Commitment 

  • Minimum one shift per week, rotating to cover all Care Teams. 
  • Occasional attendance at team meetings or volunteer training sessions. 
  • Ongoing engagement with Education Managers to plan and review training priorities.
